SATURDAY SOCIAL LUNCH

RISE projects have partnered up with the SHINE centre to deliver a new social projected called Saturday Social Lunch every Saturday. This project will allow people of our community to come to a place to socialise, connect and feel safe. It will promote and demonstrate healthy eating as well as teach about different food combination all whilst discussing and dealing with problems we face in the community.

REDUCING FOOD POVERTY

Food poverty, or household food insecurity is on the increase and can be triggered by a crisis in finance or personal circumstances, but may also be a long-term experience of not being able to access a healthy diet or afford to eat well. Saturday Social Lunch works to alleviate this by bringing the community together to ensure those in such crisis, whether they are working people whose low wages leave them struggling to buy healthy food; or older people unable to prepare meals without support can have one proper meal a week, whilst also been given a bag of food and produce to take away.

Combating isolation in our community.

As people age, they often find themselves spending more time at home alone, . This can affect our health and well-being. Saturday Social Lunch is a great opportunity to expand your social connections, stay connected and learn new skills. Through this partnership, we aim to bring people in the community together to prevent isolation and give them a chance to socialise with people.

Uniting the community

A community is a familiar thread used to bring people together to advocate and support each other in the fight to overcome those threats. This project allows us to unite for a good cause and benefit not only us but also the community as a whole with the issues we bring forward and solve together.

Saturday Social lunch will benefit the community greatly. It will give a chance to the communal people to socialise and meet new people within their own community. Teaching about healthy eating would demonstrate to them a valuable lesson to take back home to their kids which would benefit the next generation.

We are very grateful to the Felix Project, who continue to support us with free food to make Saturday Social Lunch possible.
