Our mental health….

We believe that it is vital to maintain a healthy mind, which is why we have collaborated with Assunnah Islamic Centre to develop the Somali Mental Health Project 2022/23.

The Somali Mental Health Project focuses on three key areas: Youth Engagement Activities, Parental Engagement, and Community Wellbeing. Each of these areas focus on delivering interventions that support the Somali Community in improving mental health and wellbeing by providing culturally appropriate services as well as support with accessing statutory services.

This project enables the Somali community across the North Central London area to better access and navigate mental health services.

The project started back in May 2022. And we began by training our staff members in Mental Health First Aid so that we develop greater mental health awareness. We have also run workshops for many residents on Paediatric first aid as well as develop employability activities with Haringey Works.

The Project is ongoing and in the future, we hope to work with Haringey IAPT to run therapy treatment sessions at Assunah mosque and other community settings. We will continue to signpost residents towards helpful services and work with Haringey Learns to develop more outreach sessions and workshops. We will also try to work with Somali organization within NCL to have a wider reach into Camden and Barnet.
